The Short Story: The Roanoke College women's volleyball team fell in the 2022 Tournament semifinals to No. 4 seed Randolph-Macon on Friday evening in Ashland.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• After R-MC won the first three points of the first set, the Maroons answered back with their own three-point runt to tie the score up at 3-3. After a pair of Yellow Jacket points, Roanoke went on another small four-point run to take a 7-5 advantage early in the first set.
• The two teams went back and forth for most of the rest of the first set with R-MC having an 18-14 lead. The Maroons tried to come back, but the host kept them at bay for the 25-19 set one win.
• Roanoke jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the first set, forcing the Yellow Jackets to take a time-out. With the Maroons leading 9-6, R-MC went on a five-point run to take an 11-9 advantage, forcing a Roanoke time-out.
• Another set of runs gave the Yellow Jackets a 16-11 lead, forcing the Maroons to take their second timeout of the set. The two teams traded four-runs midway through the set, but the final two points were scored by R-MC for the 25-20 set two win and a 2-0 set lead.
• The third set went back and forth with runs by both teams that saw the Yellow Jackets have an 11-10 lead. The Maroons began to chip away at the lead and took one of their own at 19-18.
• It went point-for-point for the next six points with Roanoke having a 22-21 lead. However, the Yellow Jackets scored the final five total points for the 25-22 set three win and claimed the match 3-0.

BY THE NUMBERS

• Rylee Mayer led the Maroons with nine kills with Peyton Kirchner finishing the match with seven.
• Kylee Draper finished with 24 assists and both Kennedy Clemmer and Sydney Harrison finished in double-digit digs with 13 and 11, respectively.

SEASON COMPLETE

• With the loss, the Maroons complete the season with a 13-13 record, after knocking off the top-seeded Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan in the ODAC tournament first round in the 1 vs. 8 matchup.
• Earlier this season, Roanoke won the 2022 Maroon Classic after being the only team to win all four matches at the event.
