The Lead: Roanoke dropped a 9-6 decision to Penn State Harrisburg Sunday afternoon in Salem, Va. 

How it Happened:

  • After three scoreless innings, the Lions got on the board when Jackson Struve, who reached on a single up the middle, scored on a wild pitch to give PSH a 1-0 lead.
  • PSH tacked on four more runs in the top of the fifth as Ethan Kell scored on a pass ball before a single from Zachary Koroneos brought in another run. The Lions closed the inning with two runs off an infield error to take a 5-0 lead.
  • Trailing 6-0 in the sixth, Drew Mikula started off the inning with an infield single followed by a double from Will Black. Joe Kitlas brought both Mikula and Black in with a single to left field. Dean Hermanson kept the momentum going with an RBI single while Sean Guida plated Kitlas with a single to centerfield cutting the deficit in half to 6-3.
  • In the eighth, PSH scored a pair of runs off a Koroneos single taking an 8-3 lead. Roanoke scored in the bottom of the inning as Hermanson ripped a double to left field and moved to third on a wild pitch. Sam Watson then lifted a sacrifice fly to centerfield scoring Hermanson making it 8-4 PSH.
  • Roanoke pushed across two runs in the ninth as Will Decker knocked a lead-off triple to right field. Craig Kiley followed with a home run over the left field wall.
  • Kiley led RC with two RBI, Mikula went 3-for-5 on the day while Hermanson tallied two hits, including a double. Koronoes led the Lions with three RBI, while Ethan Kell went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles.
  • Ben West was tabbed with the loss going 4.0 innings giving up four hits and one run. Travis VanHouten earned the win with 5.0 innings of work allowing only one hit.
