How it Happened
- In the Roanoke second inning, Dean Hermanson reached on an error with one out and scored on a Sam Watson double to make it 1-0. Later in the inning, Watson was on third and scored when Scott Ellis got himself in a rundown following a pickoff attempt at first base.
- After a Brian Goodwyn solo homerun in the bottom of the fourth got H-SC on the board and made the score 2-1, RC got the run back in the next half inning when Sean Guida responded with a solo homer of his own to lead off the inning.
- Roanoke pushed its lead to 4-1 in the top half of the seventh when Will Black doubled to open the inning, moved to third on an Ellis bunt and came home on a Guida single.
- With RC leading 4-2 in the bottom of the ninth, the Tigers had two runners on but Sal Trancucci got Tyler Blevins to groundout and end the game.
- Steven Loney (6-2) went seven strong innings, giving up just three hits and one run, while striking out four. Trancucci went two innings to pick up the save.
- The win improves RC's record to 26-16 on the year and gives fifth-year head coach Matt McGuire his 100th career victory.
