Second Half dooms Roanoke, 4-0

Salem, Va. --- Mary Washington scored three second half goals en route to a 4-0 win over Roanoke this afternoon at Kerr Stadium. The loss dropped the Maroons to 2-12 while the Eagles improved to 11-4.
 
The Maroons were outshot, 26-3, as the Eagles also claimed a 12-4 advantage in penalty corners. The difference was in the second stanza, as UMW outshot Roanoke, 15-3 including three second-half goals.
 
Emma Jones scored the first of two goals for the Eagles just 10 minutes into the contest to give her team a 1-0 lead.
 
The Maroon defense held Mary Washington to a slim 1-0 advantage in the first half. Kristin Santella and Emily Horner were instrumental in the back, assisting goalie Cristina Schicilone in the box as she finished the half with eight first-half saves.
 
Mary Washington got an insurance goal late in the second half as Jones scored with 15 minutes remaining off an assist from Whitney Lipscomb to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead. Jones repaid the favor to Lipscomb two minutes later to give them a 3-0 advantage. 
 
Morgan Jones scored the final goal off an assist from Nicole Conti with less than six minutes remaining.
 
Santella, the school's all-time career defensive saves leader, finished with a season-best three defensive saves. She currently has six on the season, which is tied for sixth for defensive saves in a single-season.
 
Horner finished with a season-best two defensive saves to give her three on the season. Schicilone had 11 saves in goal for the Maroons and needs five more to reach 100 saves on the season. Mariah Vietri led Roanoke with two shots, one on goal.
 
The women will host Sweet Briar in the Maroons final home game of the season. Roanoke currently holds a 25-9-2 series advantage and has won the last 13 meetings. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
