The Basics
Score: Roanoke 1 | Randolph-Macon 0
Records: Maroons 10-7 / 5-3 ODAC | Yellow Jackets 9-8 / 4-4 ODAC
Location: Ashland, Va.
The Lead: Roanoke traveled to Randolph-Macon for a matchup with the Yellow Jackets to see who would secure the #4 seed in the upcoming 2021 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Field Hockey Tournament. The two ODAC foes came into the afternoon with identical 4-3 conference records. A Maroon score just 38 seconds into the second quarter would prove to be the only goal of the game as Roanoke would hold on for the 1-0 win.
Highlights:
- Roanoke enjoyed a 2-0 shot lead in a scoreless first quarter.
- Just seconds into the second frame, Emilee Wooten put Roanoke in front off a feed from Lindsey Keyes. It was the only shot of the quarter for Roanoke as Randolph-Macon controlled much of the action with a 5-1 edge in shots.
- Four saves by Madison Wingerter allowed Roanoke to take the lead into the half.
- The Maroons would flip the field on the Yellow Jackets in the second half, 14-5 in shots, but could not add to their advantage.
- Thanks in part to seven Wingerter saves, Roanoke would hold on for the 1-0 lead and secure a home game in the 2021 ODAC Field Hockey Tournament.
Up next: Roanoke have to defeated the Yellow Jackets once again on Tuesday as they play host to Randolph-Macon at 4:00pm in the Quarterfinal round of the ODAC Tournament.
