Three Maroons Earn a Spot on the All-ODAC Field Hockey Team
Salem, Va. --- Roanoke College had two field hockey players named to the All-ODAC Team announced this afternoon. Senior Emily Horner earned a spot on first-team while freshman Lee Sheldon and junior Mariah Vietri took home honorable mention honors.

Horner, a defender from Long Valley, NJ, was a team captain for the Maroons this fall. She anchored the backfield and totaled four defensive saves. In addition, she had a goal on a penalty stroke against Swarthmore in the season-opener and added an assist against Randolph-Macon in the ODAC-opener. She had a season-best two defensive saves against Mary Washington. She had three shots on goal against Wesley.

Sheldon, a midfielder from Darien, CT, became a productive newcomer for coach Pustizzi's club this season. For the year, Sheldon finished with two goals and two assists for six points. In addition, she totaled 18 shots, nine on goal for the Maroons. Her 18 shots were tied for second on the team.

Vietri, a junior forward from Jamestown, RI, was named honorable mention All-ODAC for the second-straight season.  She started in all 17 games and led the Maroons with six goals and finished second in assists (2), points (14), shots (18) and shots on goal (14).  Her .778 shots on goal percentage was the highest on the team as she enjoyed a breakout season.  For her career, Vierti has 10 goals and 22 points.

The Maroons finished with the same win total from last season against quality competition. In their three wins, the women outscored their opponents, 16-3. Half of the team's losses came by two goals or less, four of those coming to NCAA Tournament teams and two more to NCAA Div. II schools. The 28 goals scored this season were the most since the 2004 season.
