Vietri, Pearsall shine in 5-1 victory over Bridgewater

Harrisonburg, Va. --- The Roanoke College field hockey team got their second win of the season in a 5-1 win over Bridgewater College in ODAC action. The Maroons improved to 2-11 overall with a 1-4 mark in the ODAC.
 
With the win, the Maroons now hold a 28-13 series advantage over the Eagles. It was their first win since 2004 and the first on the road since the 2003 season. In addition, it was the Maroons fourth multi-goal match of the season and in back-to-back games for the first time this fall.
 
Helen Pearsall and Mariah Vietri led the Maroons with two goals each as Vietri added an assist to Pearsall's goal. Jessica Perkins had two assists to pace Roanoke while Emily Huston had a goal and two assists.
 
Roanoke held a slight edge in shots, 13-12 but the Eagles held a 12-4 advantage in penalty corners. Elizabeth Sullivan had five saves for Bridgewater while Cristinia Schicilone finished with four in goal for the Maroons.
 
Bridgewater got on the board first with a penalty corner as Kalah Hess took a pass from Leah Cossentino and found the back of the cage to take a 1-0 advantage.
 
It was all Roanoke in the second half as they won their first ODAC match of the season. Pearsall evened the score at one apiece off an assist from Vietri just 40-seconds into the half.
 
Vietri scored off Huston's pass to give the Maroons a 2-1 lead and the sophomore forward her first game-winner of the season.
 
The Maroons never looked back as they scored their final three goals of the match in the next 20 minutes to seal their second win of the season. The Maroons have scored 21 of their 24 goals in the second half this season.
 
The women will host Mary Washington this Sunday in non-conference action. The Maroons are 7-15 all-time against the Eagles. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
