Maroons Comeback Falls Short against Generals

Salem, Va. --- Roanoke College scored two goals late in the second half, but the comeback effort fell short as Washington & Lee defeated the Maroons, 3-2 at Kerr Stadium. The Maroons dropped to 1-10 overall and 0-4 in the ODAC while the Generals improved to 4-6 and 2-1 in conference play.
 
Sallie Armstrong scored two goals to lead the Generals to their second ODAC win of the season. Christina Beneditti scored the first goal just 10 minutes in the contest to make it 1-0.
 
Armstrong scored the next two goals to make it a 3-0 with two minutes gone in the second half. Christina Merchant was credited with the assists on Armstrong's second goal.
 
The Maroons roared back to cut the deficit to within one with Mariah Vietri and Jordan McIninch scored goals to make it interesting down the stretch. It was Vietri's fourth goal of the season while McIninch had her first collegiate goal.
 
The Generals outshot the Maroons , 23-8 with a 14-3 advantage in corner kicks. Caroline Habliston had one save for W&L while Cristina Schicilone finished with three for Roanoke.
 
The women will host Wesley (DE) in non-conference action this Saturday at 3 p.m.
