Maroons fall to EMU, 7-0

Salem, Va. --- The Roanoke College field hockey team fell to Eastern Mennonite, 7-0 in ODAC action on Friday evening on senior night. The Maroons fell to 1-7, 0-2 in the ODAC while the Royals improved to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in the ODAC.
 
Before the game, the Maroons honored seniors Emily Horner and Kristen Santella. Both were four-year starters and were recognized for their contributions to the program.
 
Hailee Rittle got the Royals on the board in the seventh minute of action as she took a pass from Alyssa Derstine and punched it in to give EMU a 1-0 lead and never looked back.
 
Derstine went on to score three goals along with her assist to finish with seven points on the evening. Julie Denlinger scored two goals on the evening while Katie Cimini added another goal to pace the Royals.
 
The Royals outshot the Maroons, 27-6 in the match and a 14-5 advantage in penalty corners. Becky Nolt had four saves for Eastern Mennonite. Cristina Schicilone finished with 12 saves and Lauren Dukes adding one in relief for a combined 13 saves for Roanoke.
 
The women return to action on Sunday as they host Ohio Wesleyan in non-conference action. Game time is slated for a 10 a.m. start.
