Field Hockey Falls to Lynchburg in ODAC Quarterfinal

Lynchburg, VA --- Roanoke fell to Lynchburg, 7-1 at Shellenberger Field on Saturday in the ODAC Quarterfinals. The loss ended the Maroon's season with a record of 3-14. The women are 21-32-5 all-time against the Hornets.

Lynchburg's Allie Weir opened the scoring just five minutes into the first half off of a Cassie Westman assist. Westman then scored in the 12th minute off an assist from teammate Kristina Morris. 

Jenny Weir tallied assists on next three goals to Erin Funkhouser, Jordan Warrington, and her sister for her second goal of the game. 
 
The Hornets struck again with two unassisted goals in the next ten minutes from Tarah Rahner and Weir. The Weir sisters finished the afternoon with a combined three goals and three assists.
 
Roanoke turned up the heat in the second half with 10 shots, seven on goal. Senior Kristen Santella scored unassisted in the 65th minute of the game to cut Lynchburg's lead to six, but the second-half surge was too late as the Hornets won their 15th game of the season.
 
Cristina Scichilone tallied eight saves for Roanoke. Lynchburg outshot Roanoke 33-10 with a 15-8 advantage in penalty corners. Tiffany Frye had seven saves to earn the win for the Hornets.
