Field Hockey falls to Franklin & Marshall in Home-Opener

Salem, Va. --- The Roanoke College Field Hockey team fell to Franklin & Marshall College 3-1 at Kerr Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Maroons dropped to 0-3 on the season while the Diplomats improved to 1-1.
 
Franklin & Marshall came out strong when Eileen O'Reilly scored an unassisted goal in the first three minutes of the contest. Jessica Mancino followed with a goal later in the first half to make the score 2-0 at the break.  The Diplomats final goal was tapped in by Lauren Wendth late in the second half.
 
The Diplomats outshot the Maroons 11-6 and set up penalty corners 14 times to Roanoke's six times. Lee Sheldon scored the only goal for the Maroons late in the second half to prevent a shutout. 
 
Franklin & Marshall's Eileen O'Reilly paced the Diplomats with two shots, one goal and an assist. The Diplomats' Naomi Stone made three saves on the afternoon while Roanoke's Lauren Dukes stopped eight shots.
 
The Maroons face Johns Hopkins University Sunday, Sept. 7 at 12:00pm to close out their home-opener weekend.
