Ohio Wesleyan takes 2-1 decision over Roanoke

Salem, Va. --- Ohio Wesleyan defeated Roanoke, 2-1 in field hockey action this morning at Kerr Stadium. The Maroons dropped to 1-8 on the season while the Bishops improved to 5-1.
 
Christa Cocumelli got the Bishops on the board first with a shot from five yards out to give her team a 1-0 advantage within the first minute of play.
 
The Maroons kept their composure and tied the contest early in the second half as Mariah Vietri scored with just over a minute gone in the second half to make it, 1-1.
 
With just over 10 minutes remaining, Lilly Jianas scored from three yards out to give her the game-winner and her team their fifth win of the season.
 
The Maroons had one last opportunity with a penalty corner but Lee Sheldon's shot went just to the left of the cage with no time remaining.
 
The Maroons were outshot, 14-5 on the day as both teams had seven penalty corners apiece. Cristina Schicilone had eight saves for Roanoke while Krista Murray had two for Ohio Wesleyan.
 
The women return to conference play this weekend as they travel to Virginia Beach, Va. to battle Virginia Wesleyan on Oct. 4. The Maroons are 11-6 all-time against the Marlins, including a 3-1 win last fall which was the first over VWC since 2002. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
