Virginia Wesleyan uphends Roanoke, 3-1

Virginia Beach, Va. --- Roanoke was defeated by Virginia Wesleyan, 3-1 in field hockey action this afternoon. The women fall to 1-9 overall and 0-3 in the ODAC while the Marlins improved to 2-7, 2-0 in the ODAC. The Maroons are now 11-7 in the series but the Marlins have won five of the last six meetings.
 
Ashton Perry scored the first two goals, both in the first half to give the Marlins a 2-0 halftime advantage. She scored with 11 minutes remaining to break the scoreless tie and her second goal came with under a minute remaining in the half.
 
With just 30-seconds gone in the second half, Whitney King scored to put VWC up, 3-0. 
 
Alex Broadbent scored her first career goal off a penalty stroke to close the gap to within two, 3-1, but couldn't get any closer as the Marlins won their second ODAC match of the season.
 
Cristinia Schicilone finished with eight saves for Roanoke. Chelsea Baker finished with seven saves for Virginia Wesleyan.
 
The women host Washington & Lee this Wednesday, Oct. 9. The Maroons are 4-5 in the series and are looking for their first win since 2004 against the Generals. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
