Field Hockey gets first win of the Season in a big way over Shenandoah, 8-0

Salem, Va. --- The Roanoke College Field Hockey team defeated Shenandoah, 8-0 in non-conference action at Kerr Stadium this afternoon.  It was the Maroons first win of the season as they improved to 1-4 while the Hornets dropped to 0-5 on the season.

 

The Maroons are now 6-0 against the Hornets and set the series-record for most goals scored with eight.  It was also the second-straight shutout in the series.

 

The Maroons outshot the Hornets, 16-3, including an 11-1 advantage in shots on goal.  They also held a 20-2 advantage in penalty corners.

 

After the Hornets held the Maroons to a scoreless first half, the Maroons exploded in the second half as they scored all eight goals to give them their first win of the season.  It was the most goals scored since 2004 and the most second half goals since Oct. 9, 2003 vs. Hollins.

 

Emily Huston and Jessica Perkins led Roanoke with two goals each.  Huston added an assist to her performance this afternoon.  Emily Douillard had a goal and an assist to her credit in the win.  Alex Broadbent, Melissa Pazornik and Helen Pearsall each had a goal for the Maroons.

 

The women will travel to Catawba on Wednesday, Sept. 17 to take on the NCAA Div. II School with game time slated for 4 p.m.  The Maroons are 6-4 all-time against the Indians and will look to avenge a 3-0 loss back in 2006.
