Stevenson Knocks off Roanoke in Overtime in Field Hockey Action
SALEM, Va. --- Stevenson scored midway through the overtime period to knock off Roanoke, 3-2 in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at Kerr Stadium. The Maroons dropped to 1-7, while the Mustangs improved to 5-6 on the season.

Roanoke scored with six minutes remaining to tie the contest at 2-2 off a Megan Hagberg (Marion, MA, Old Rochester Regional High School) goal. It was her first of the season. The Mustangs, however, escaped Salem with the win off a five-yard chip shot from Ashley Beam to give her team their fifth win of the season.

The Maroons were outshot, 10-5, but all of their shots were on goal. The Mustangs held a 11-7 corner kicks advantage. Roanoke now holds a slim, 4-3 series lead over the Maryland school. It's the second overtime contest in the seven meetings and the fourth one-goal match in the series.

Kaitlyn May scored the first goal of the contest with just over eight minutes remaining in the first half to take the early Mustang lead.

Helen Pearsall (Chicago, IL, Berkshire School) scored her third goal of the season to tie the score at one apiece with nearly three minutes before halftime.

Johanna Morrison's rebound shot fell into the back of the cage to put Stevenson up, 2-1 midway through the second stanza.

Cristina Scichilone (South Yarmouth, MA, Nauset Regional) collected two saves on the afternoon for Roanoke. Kara Zimmerman totaled three in the cage for Stevenson.

Lee Sheldon (Darien, CT, Darien) led the Maroons with two shots on goal. Stevenson's Katelyn Manocheh finished with four goals, one on goal, followed by May with two on goal.

The women return to action Wednesday, October 6 as they take on Washington & Lee in ODAC action. Game time is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
