Washington and Lee Defeats Roanoke, 5-2
SALEM, Va--- Roanoke fell to Washington and Lee, 5-2 Wednesday evening at Kerr Stadium. The dropped to 1-8, 0-3 in the ODAC, while the Generals improved to 6-3, 3-0 in conference play.

The loss marked the eighth-straight time the Generals have defeated the Maroons. WLU now holds a 9-4 advantage all-time in the series.

Julienne Brown (Orange, VA, Foxcroft School) scored her second goal of the season and Lianna Hachborn (Portland, ME, North Yarmouth Academy) added her third of the year for the Maroons while Abby Bjork (Westborough, MA, Westborough) picked up an assist.

Emmy Mathews registered two goals and two assists on the night for the Generals. 

Mathews got Washington and Lee out to an early lead, scoring 20 minutes into the half from the middle of the box. Brown evened score off a put back, three minutes later to give the half-time mark.

The Maroons took their only lead of the game when Bjork found Hachborn off a cross seven minutes into the second stanza. Chelsea Stevenson then tied things up on a goal from the right side of the box off an assist by Mathews in the 47th minute. Four minutes later, Mathews went coast-to-coast to find the back of the cage and give the Generals a one goal advantage. Kelly Tran and Annie Stevenson added scores in the last 15 minutes to give the final.

Cristina Schicilone (South Yarmouth, MA, Nauset Regional) took the loss in goal for the Maroons, recording ten saves on the night. She is currently first in the conference in saves with 112.

Caroline Sutherland picked up the win for the Generals, blocking three shots on the contest.
Washington and Lee outshot Roanoke, 10-3 and held a 14-1 advantage in penalty corners.

The women will travel to Bridgewater Saturday, Oct. 9th for an ODAC match-up. Game-time is set for 4:30 p.m.
