Bridgewater Tops Roanoke, 7-2 in ODAC Action

BRIDGEWATER, Va---Bridgewater defeated Roanoke, 7-2 in conference play Saturday afternoon. The Maroons fell to 1-9, 0-4 in the ODAC, while the Eagles improved to 9-3, 3-1 in the conference.

The loss marked the 13th straight time Roanoke has fallen to Bridgewater. The Eagles now lead the all-time series 37-19-2. 

Lianna Hachborn (Portland, ME, North Yarmouth Academy)
registered her team-leading fourth goal of the season and Abby Bjork (Westborough, MA, Westborough) added her first score of the year.

Bridgewater jumped in front early on their senior day as Collen Dickson found then back of the cage nearly seven minutes into the match. Ten minutes later, Jennifer Bateman found Joann Burleson to put to the Eagles up two. Bateman then added a score of her own and Kristen Combs added another in the 20th minute to give BC a 4-0 halftime lead.

The second half remained scoreless for the first 15 minutes of play, until a Kalah Hess pass located Brianna Jacques for the score. Hachborn then got the Maroons on the board firing in a shot just a minute later to make it 5-1. Moments later, Kelly Ryan scored an unassisted goal to push the Eagles advantage back to five. 

In the 63rd minute, Combs punched in her second tally of the match. Lee Sheldon then found Bjork on a pnelaty corner with just under two minutes to play to give the final score.

Sheldon paced Roanoke with three shots on goal and an assist.

Combs led Bridgewater with two goals on five shots, while Hess added three assists on the afternoon.

Cristina Scichilone (South Yarmouth, MA, Nauset Regional) took the loss in goal for the Maroons picking up three saves in the first half. Katherine Muhvich (Towson, MD, Towson) relieved her between the post, seeing 43 minutes of action and registering two saves. 

Taylor Waddell set a school-record for wins in a single season for Bridgewater, picking up her ninth win of the year and blocking seven shots on the day.

Bridgewater outshot Roanoke 21-9 and held an 11-4 advantage on penalty corners.

The women will travel to Mary Washington Wednesday, Oct. 13th in non-conference action. The match is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start.
