Field Hockey Drops ODAC Contest to Randolph-Macon
SALEM, Va. --- Roanoke fell to Randolph-Macon, 4-1 Tuesday afternoon at Kerr Stadium. The Maroons dropped to 1-12, 0-6 in the ODAC, while the Yellow Jackets improved to 11-5, 5-1 in conference play.

The loss marked the seventh consecutive time that Roanoke has fallen to RMC, dating back to 2004.

The Maroons jumped out to their only lead of the game when Lee Sheldon (Darien, CT, Darien) found Abby Bjork (Westborough, MA, Westborough) midway through the first half off a penalty corner. The assist was Sheldon's team-high third of the year, while the goal was Bjork's second of the season.

Monica Jenkins tied the game two minutes later, off a Yellow Jackets penalty corner. Jenkins then found Mary McCarthy for the eventual game-winner in the 30th minute to send Randolph-Macon into the half with the advantage.

The second half proved to be much of the same story for both teams. McCarthy added two more goals in the 54th and 56th minute to put the Yellow Jackets up three. Three minutes later, Lauren Seal scored off a Meredith Young feed from three yards out.

With five minutes remaining, Jenkins found McCarthy for her fourth score of the game. The assist was the second of the afternoon for Jenkins.

Bjork led the Maroons with four shots on goal and a score. Sheldon added two shots and Lianna Hachborn (Portland, ME, North Yarmouth Academy) recorded one shot on the afternoon.

McCarthy and Seal each put seven shots on goal for RMC. Young, Jenkins, and Kendall Lam all finished with two shots on goal.

Cristina Scichilone (South Yarmouth, MA, Nauset Regional) took the loss for Roanoke, blocking 12 shots on the day. Nicole Wood picked up the win, registering three saves in goal.

Randolph-Macon outshot Roanoke 24-7, including a 23-5 edge in shots on goal. The Yellow Jackets also held an 18-4 advantage in penalty corners.

The Maroons return to action Wednesday, October 20 as they host Limestone in non-conference action. The match is set for a 3:00 p.m. start.
