Roanoke Gets First Conference Victory on Senior Night
SALEM, Va--- Roanoke defeated Sweet Briar, 2-0 to get their first ODAC victory Wednesday evening at Kerr Stadium. The Maroons improved to 2-13, 1-6 in the ODAC, while the Vixens fell to 2-12, 0-6 in conference play.

Roanoke set a new single-season record with 28 defensive saves on the year. Lee Sheldon (Darien, CT, Darien) finished tied for fifth all-time in a single season with eight. She currently leads the ODAC and is ranked in the top-ten in the nation in defensive saves.

The Maroons honored Megan Maier, Gabbie Leigey-Kelly, and Jessica Perkins prior to the game for senior night and sent them off with a victory and the only shutout of the season.

Lianna Hachborn (Portland, ME, North Yarmouth Academy) found the back of the cage just 10 minutes into play to give Roanoke the early lead. The Maroons never looked back in the defensive battle, as the Vixens were held without a shot in the first half.

With just four minutes remaining, Helen Pearsall added an insurance goal when she slipped a shot from the right side just past the goalie to give Roanoke a two-goal advantage.

Hachborn led the Maroons with four shots on the contest, including three on goal. Pearsall added three shots on goal while playing just the second half.

Kelly picked up her first career win for Roanoke, blocking a career-high six shots on the night. Emma Rakosky took the loss in goal for Sweet Briar, recording seven saves.

The Maroons outshot Sweet Briar 11-8, including a 9-7 edge in shots on goal. The women also held a 7-3 advantage in penalty corners.

Roanoke has now completed the 2010 season and will return to action at the start of the 2011 fall semester.
