Maroons Fall in Field Hockey Home Opener, 3-2
SALEM -  Roanoke dropped its season-opener to Limestone, 3-2 in the confines of Donald J. Kerr Stadium.  The Maroons moved to 0-1 while the Saints start their season 1-0.

The Maroons had the advantage early as Lianna Hachborn (Portland, ME, North Yarmouth Academy) netted the first goal in the first four minutes of play.  The Saints, however, took control and tied the game just a minute later from a goal by Rachel Goromonzi.  At the seven minute mark, Limestone took a 2-1 lead off of a shot from Brittany Zimmerman.

After a short weather delay and as time expired in the first half, Shannon McCarthy (Westport, MA, Tabor Academy) found the back of the net off of a corner to tie the game 2-2.

With 21 minutes remaining in the contest, Limestone's Abby Rummel posted the eventual game winner, as the Saints capture their first win of the season.

Cristina Scichilone (South Yarmouth, MA, Nauset Regional) finished the game with 10 saves, including a diving save that kept the Maroons in the contest.

Limestone held the advantage in shots at 26-3, while both teams were tied in corners 3-3.

Lee Sheldon (Darien, CT, Darien) had the Maroon's only other shot in the game.  Limestone now leads the all-time series 2-0

The Maroons will return to action this weekend as they head north to play York (Sat.) and Kean (Sun.).
