Field Hockey falls 3-1 to McDaniel in Non-Conference Action
Roanoke fell to McDaniel, 3-1 in non-conference action at Kerr Stadium Saturday afternoon. The Maroons are now 0-4 on the season, while the Green Terror improved to 2-0.
 
The Green Terror's Sarah Meszler scored off an assist from Katherine Jones with just under four minutes left in the first half and went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
 
Nearly two minutes into the second half, Paige Messersmith connected with Lindsay Riordon to increase McDaniel's lead to 2-0.
 
Seven minutes later in the 44th minute, Mariel Hunt (Rumsan, NJ, Rumsan Fair Haven) scored off an assist from Shannon McCarthy (Westport, MA, Tabor Academy) to cut the McDaniel lead in half, 2-1. It was Hunt's second goal of the season.
 
In the final minute of the contest, Riordon scored the third goal as McDaniel remained undefeated in their first week of competition this season.
 
McDaniel outshot Roanoke, 16-3, while holding a slight edge in penalty corners, 5-4. Stephanie Thomson collected two saves for the Green Terror. Cristina Scichilone (South Yarmouth, MA, Nauset Regional) finished with eight saves for the Maroons.
 
The women will host Mary Washington on Wednesday in non-conference action. Game time is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at Kerr Stadium.
