Field Hockey Rolls Past Sweet Briar in ODAC Opener, 6-0
SWEET BRIAR - Lianna Hachborn (Portland, ME, North Yarmouth Academy) recorded a hat-trick in Roanoke field hockey's ODAC opener against Sweet Briar, 6-0 to pick up their second consecutive win Saturday.  The Maroons move to 2-5, 1-0 ODAC while Sweet Briar falls to 3-4, 0-1 in ODAC play.

The Maroons got out of the gate early scoring at the 17 minute mark when Shannon McCarthy fielded a pass from Stacy Bechtel and dropped it in the back of the cage for a Roanoke 1-0 lead.  That was McCarthy's second goal of the season.

Just eight minutes later, Hachborn started her scoring run by tallying an unassisted goal for the 2-0 lead.  Hachborn scored again in the third minute of the second half off a pass from Laura Stavetski.  In the 51st minute, Hachborn picked up her final goal of the game, which was also unassisted, to give Roanoke a 4-0 lead.

Two other Maroons got in on the scoring action as Stacy Bechtel scored just one minute later and Kelly Finn scored in the 58th minute.  Both goals were assisted by Mariel Hunt.

Roanoke outshot Sweet Briar 25-2 and led in penalty corners 14-7.  Cristina Scichilone earned the win for the Maroons, only having to make one save in the contest.

Roanoke will return to action Thursday, Sept. 29, as they host #6 ranked Lynchburg College at Donald J. Kerr Stadium.  The contest is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
