SEWANEE, Tenn. --- The Roanoke College Field Hockey team fell to Centre, 5-1 but rebounded with a 2-1 victory over Sewanee this weekend in non-conference action.  The Maroons record now stands at 4-8.
 
With the win over Sewanee on Sunday, the Maroons have won more games in a season since 2004.  The women have already won more games than they have the previous two seasons combined.
 
It was a milestone weekend for goalie Cristina Scichilone (South Yarmouth, MA, Nauset Regional), who moved into second on Roanoke's career saves list, passing Maribeth Miller '90.  She had 472 saves entering this weekend.
 
The Maroons fell to Centre, 5-1 in only their second meeting.  RC defeated the Colonels, 3-0 in 1998 and the series is now 1-1, now 4-2 against teams from Kentucky.  Centre improved to 8-4 on the season.
 
Kelly Finn (Fairhaven, NJ, Rumson Fair Haven) scored the only goal for the Maroons, which was her third of the season.
 
Roanoke topped Sewanee, 2-1 at Tiger Field on Sunday afternoon to wrap up the weekend.  The Maroons are now 8-2-1 against the Tigers, who fall to 3-7 on the season.
 
With time ticking down in the first half Roanoke broke the scoreless tie as Abby Bjork (Westborough, MA, Westborough) converted a penalty corner from teammate Lianna Hachborn (Portland, ME, North Yarmouth Academy), giving the Maroons a 1-0 lead at the half.  It was Bjork's second goal of the season and Hachborn's first assist this fall.
 
Nine minutes into the second half, Sewanee tied the contest as Elise Landau found the back of the cage off a pass that found her inside the circle.
 
The Maroons responded as Bjork converted the game-winner off of a Roanoke penalty corner seven minutes later for her second of the game, the first multi-goal performance of her career.
 
Roanoke outshot Sewanee, 24-15, including 14-5 in shots on goal. Each team had nine penalty corners on the day.  Individually, Landau led the Tigers with five shots (three on goal), while Finn had seven for the Maroons.  Mariel Hunt (Rumson, NJ, Rumson Fair Haven) finished with four shots, three on goal.
 
Anna Morrow made 11 saves on the day for Sewanee.  Scichilone had four saves in goal for the Maroons.
 
The women will host Bridgewater in ODAC action on Wednesday, Oct. 12.  The Maroons are 40-36-6 all-time against the Eagles, with BC claiming five of the last six meetings.  The contest is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at Kerr Stadium.
