Field Hockey Falls 3-2 After Late Charge by Bridgewater
SALEM - The Roanoke Field Hockey team fell to ODAC opponent Bridgewater, 3-2 after a late charge by the Eagles.  The Maroons move to 4-9, 2-2 ODAC, while the Eagles are now 7-6, 3-2 in ODAC competition.

The game looked scary early for the Maroons as Bridgewater's Megan Gould netted the first goal at the 1:46 mark in the contest off a penalty corner.  The Maroons were not phased however, as Kelly Finn (Fairhaven, NJ, Rumson Fair Haven) answerd at the 10:11 mark to tie the game at 1-1, off a pass from Julienne Brown (Orange, VA, Foxcroft School) (Fairhaven, NJ, Rumson Fair Haven).  Just six minutes later, Finn found the back of the cage off a pass from Mariel Hunt (Rumson, NJ, Rumson Fair Haven) (Fairhaven, NJ, Rumson Fair Haven) to give the Maroons the lead heading in to halftime.

But, the Eagles came out of the locker room at half time and scored just five minutes into the second half, when Kelly Ryan snuck one past the keeper on the right side to tie the game up at 2-2.  26 minutes passed until Megan Bach was rewarded with a penalty stroke, which she converted to give Bridge water the 3-2 lead with just a little over three mintues to play.

Bridgewater outshot Roanoke 18-8, but the Maroons led in penalty corners 10-7.  Cristina Scichilone (South Yarmouth, MA, Nauset Regional) (Rumson, NJ, Rumson Fair Haven) (Fairhaven, NJ, Rumson Fair Haven) played all 70 mintes for the Maroons and tallied eight saves.

Roanoke will return to action when they travel to face Randolph-Macon on Saturday, Oct. 15.  That contest is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
