Virginia Wesleyan Ends Maroons Season in ODAC Field Hockey Quarterfinals, 5-1
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. --- The field hockey season ended on the road in the ODAC Quarterfinals at Virginia Wesleyan, 5-1 on Saturday afternoon.  The Maroons season ends with a 6-12 record.
 
The six wins this season triple last season's win total and more than the previous two seasons combined.  It's the most overall wins and most conference wins (4) since the 2004 season.
 
Playing in its first ODAC Tournament match since 2008, the Maroons played the Marlins to a 1-0 slim first half lead.  Evan Bunting's goal off a penalty corner was the eventual game-winner.
 
The Marlins poured it on in the second half, scoring three unanswered goals to take a commanding 4-0 lead midway through the second half.
 
Mariel Hunt (Rumson, NJ, Rumson Fair Haven) scored her sixth goal of the season to put the Maroons on the board with 13-minutes left in regulation.  She finished the season as the team's leading scorer with 18 points (6g, 6a).
 
Virginia Wesleyan outshot Roanoke, 11-3, 7-3 in shots on goal.  The Marlins also held an 8-4 edge in penalty corners.
 
Kirsten Olsen collected two saves for VWC.  Cristina Scichilone (South Yarmouth, MA, Nauset Regional) and Katherine Muhvich (Towson, MD, Towson) each collected two saves for Roanoke in their final collegiate match.  Scichilone capped off her career with the second-most saves in Roanoke field hockey program history.
