Finn Scores Two in Field Hockey 2-1 Win Over Sewanee
SALEM - The Roanoke College field hockey team picked up its first victory of the season behind two Kelly Finn goals in a 2-1 victory over Sewanee on Saturday.

The Maroons now have a record of 1-4, while the Tigers are 2-2 in the 2012 campaign.

The University of the South opened the scoring in the first half when Janie Spilman found the back of the cage on a penalty stroke at the 17:21 mark.  But it was in the second half when the Maroons pulled away from the Tigers.  At 41:04 Kelly Finn deflected a long pass from Lianna Hachborn to tie up the game at 1-1.

Just 31 seconds later, Kelly Finn scored her third goal of the season into the right side of the cage to take a 2-1 lead.  That lead would hold for the remainder of the match as the Maroons picked up their first win of the season.

Hachborn led the team in shots with six, followed by Finn and Rhyne with four each.  Darian Shuker plated all 70 minutes in goal and tallied 11 saves on the afternoon.

Molly Kennedy led Washington and Lee with six shots, four of which were on goal.  Roanoke and Sewanee both finished with 16 shots, and the Maroons held the advantage in penalty corners, eight to six.

The Maroons will be back in action on Sunday, September 16th as they take on Kean at Donald J. Kerr Stadium.  That contest is scheduled for a 12:00 PM start.
