Field Hockey Defeated by Division II Opponent, Limestone, 5-0 on Wednesday
SALEM – The Roanoke College field hockey team fell to NCAA Division II opponent, Limestone College, 5-0 on Wednesday.
 
The Maroons now sit with a record of 1-6, while the Saints hold a record of 3-2 after today's contest.  Roanoke has a 0-3 record against Limestone over the last three years.  In 2011, the Saints defeated the Maroons 3-2.
 
Five different players scored for the Saints in the contest with four goals coming in the first half.  Kathleen Troutner scored off a penalty stroke just four minutes in to the game.  Through the remainder of the half, Rachel Goromonzi, Kelsey Barr, and Jill Funkhouser scored goals to take a 4-0 lead entering the second half.  Limestone outshot Roanoke 15-1 in the first half.
 
In the second half, Roanoke put on a tighter defense, holding Limestone to just four shots in the period.  With just a minute to play, Limestone's Sara Parker fielded a pass form Audrey King to score and give the Saints the final 5-0 lead.
 
The Maroons finished the contest with two shots, one each from Lianna Hachborn and Marceline Piek.  Darian Shuker played 70 minutes between the pipes and made eight saves.
 
Roanoke returns to action on Tuesday, September 25 as they face off against Washington and Lee at Donald J. Kerr Stadium.  The Maroons defeated the Generals in 2011 for the first time in seven years.  That contest is scheduled for a 4:00 PM start.
