Field Hockey Drops ODAC Contest to Bridgewater 3-1 on Wednesday
BRIDGEWATER - The Roanoke College field hockey team opened the contest with a goal but couldn't hold on to the lead, falling to Bridgewater 3-1 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action on Wednesday.  The Maroons are now 2-8 and 1-3 in ODAC play, while the Eagles are 6-4 and 3-1 in the ODAC.

Roanoke is 31-41-13 all time against Lynchburg, and hasn't defeated since 2003 in regular season play.

The Maroons lone senior, Julienne Brown netted the first goal of the contest, just 6:20 into the game.  Roanoke's 1-0 lead would hold for the next 18 minutes until the Eagles' Betsy Joslyn tied the game up with a goal of her own.  At the 34:54 mark, Bridgewater took the lead just seconds before the half when Colleen Dickson scored to go up 2-1.

Bridgewater would net one more goal in the second half as Taylor Prillaman scored off an Alenka Ferrufino pass, and tallying the final game score of 3-1.

The Eagles outshot the Maroons 22-2 in the contest, with Brown and Marceline Piek getting the only shots for Roanoke.  Bridgewater also held the lead in penalty corners 11-2.  Darian Shuker played all 70 minutes and tallied 10 saves on the afternoon.

The Maroons return to action on Friday, October 5th as they travel to Virginia Beach to take on Virginia Wesleyan in ODAC action.  That contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
