Maroons Snap Streak Against EMU, Defeat Royals 1-0
SALEM – The Roanoke College field hockey team defeated Eastern Mennonite University, 1-0 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action on Wednesday.  The Maroons now have a record of 4-8, and are 3-3 in ODAC play, while the Royals are 3-9 and 2-3 in the ODAC.

The Maroons have a 10-44-2 record all-time against the Royals, and this is the first time Roanoke has defeated EMU since the 2002 ODAC Tournament semi-finals. The Royals had since won the last nine meetings up to tonight.

The Maroons jumped out to an early lead as Kelly Finn found the back of the cage off a pass from Marceline Piek during a penalty Corner.  Finn now leads the Maroons with five goals, followed by Piek who has four goals and four assists.  The Roanoke defense was able to keep the Royals from scoring the equalizer, and defeated EMU 1-0.

The Royals led in shots 11-6, and tied the Maroons in number of penalty corners (5).  Piek and Mariel Hunt led Roanoke with two shots each, while Morgan Rhyne and Finn had one.

The Maroons are back in action on Saturday, October 13th as they play host to Centre College at Donald J. Kerr Stadium.   That contest is scheduled for a 12:00 PM start.
