Field Hockey Drops Non-Conference Game Against Lebanon Valley, 4-1 on Sunday
SALEM – The Roanoke College field hockey team fell in a non-conference game against Lebanon Valley College, 4-1 on Sunday.  The Maroons are now 4-11, while The Dutchmen are 10-7.

This is just the second time that these two teams have played each other, with the last meeting occurring in 1989.  The Dutchmen won that contest 3-0.

All of the scoring took place in the second half.  The Dutchmen struck first in the first three minutes of the period as Lyndee Sheaffer scored off an assist by Laura James.  Roanoke returned the favor at 41:47, when Shannon McCarthy scored a goal into the right side off a pass from Mariel Hunt.

Lebanon Valley scored again quickly to retake the lead, as Melissa Brosious hit a laser of a shot during a penalty corner, the assist was attributed to Lauren Brumbach.  The Dutchmen extended their lead to 2, 3-1, when Lyndee Sheaffer scored her second goal of the contest at 46:14.  Lebanon Valley scored once more with eight minutes to play as Brosious deflected a shot from Lauren Brumbach to score her second goal of the game, and to go up 4-1.

The Dutchmen outshot the Maroons 24-4, and led in penalty corners 11-2.  Roanoke's Allison Denton led the team in shots, while Julienne Brown and Shannon McCarthy each tallied one.

The Maroons return to action on Wednesday, October 24th, as they host Randolph-Macon at Donald J. Kerr Stadium.  The final regular season game will also serve as Senior Day, as the team celebrates their lone senior, Julienne Brown.  The contest is scheduled for a 3:30 PM start.
