Roanoke Fall Sports Prepare for ODAC Championships
SALEM - It's an exciting time around Ronaoke College, as all of the fall teams have qualified for their respective 2012 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championships.  All of the fall sports (men's and women's soccer, men's and women's cross country, volleyball and field hockey) had successful seasons, and are looking to carry that success through the post season.

The men's soccer team will host their opening round contest against Eastern Mennonite University on Saturday, October 27th at 1:00 PM.  The Maroons (10-4-1, 8-2-1 ODAC) captured the number one seed for the second consecutive year.  In 2011, the men fell in the opening round, 2-0 to Virginia Wesleyan.  This year, the Maroons who are ranked #10 NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division III South Atlantic Region, look to make a run at the NCAA Tournament in Head Coach Scott Allison's final season at the helm.  For more information on the ODAC Men's Soccer Tournament: Click Here

The women's soccer team earned a #5 seed in the ODAC Tournament and will travel to Bridgewater for their opening round contest.  The Maroons finished the regular season with a record of 10-6-1, and were 8-3-1 in ODAC play.  Roanoke had a tough road to the tournament, going 0-1-2 against teams ranked in the NSCAA Division III national poll (#1 Emory, #5 Virginia Wesleyan, #10 Lynchburg).  Five of the Maroons six losses this season came from teams ranked in their respective regional rankings.  Bridgewater and Roanoke actually tied for fourth in the ODAC, but Bridgewater won the head to head match-up, giving them the higher seed.  For more information on the ODAC Women's Soccer Tournament: Click Here

For Roanoke's men's and women's cross country teams, they will take the course on Saturday October 27th at Peakview Elementary in Penn Laird, VA.  In 2011, both men's and women's teams took fifth place at the ODAC Championship.  The men tallied 115 points, their best total since 2007, and 2011 ODAC Runner of the Year Tim Smith took first place in the 8k with a time of 25:29.10.  On the women's side, ODAC Rookie of the Year Grace England placed fourth with a time of 23:31.  In 2012, the Maroons tallied top five finishes in each of their meets, including both teams winning the Roanoke Invitational.  For more information on the ODAC Cross Country Championships: Click Here

The volleyball team bounced back in 2012 and has earned a #7 seed in the ODAC Tournament.  The Maroons more than doubled their 2011 record, posting a mark of 16-12, 5-6 in ODAC play.  As the standings are now, the Maroons will take on Washington and Lee in Lexington in the opening round on October 31st.  Roanoke battled the Generals to a very close 3-1 (25-23, 11-25, 23-25, 24-26) finish on October 19th, and will be looking to take it to the Generals again in the ODAC tournament.  For more information on the ODAC Volleyball Tournament: Click Here

The field hockey team enters the ODAC Tournament for the second consecutive year, this year as a #6 seed.  The Maroons (4-12, 3-5 ODAC) tied Eastern Mennonite for the sixth spot in the tournament, but because they defeated the Royals 1-0 on October 10th, the tiebreaker went in favor of Roanoke.  While the official bracket has not been released yet, The Maroons will take on the #3 seed Bridgewater on the road.  Roanoke fell to the Eagles on October 3rd 3-1, but are seeking redemption from the regular season loss.  For more information on the ODAC Field Hockey Tournament, Click Here
