Field Hockey Wins Season Opener Over Goucher, 2-0
LEXINGTON, VA - The Roanoke College field hockey team picked up its first win of the season against Goucher College, 2-1 at Washington and Lee. The Maroons open the season with a record of 1-0, while the Gophers now hold a mark of 0-1.

The Maroons picked up the first goal of the game at the 18:48 mark as Fleur Moorlag deflected a pass about eight yards in front of the cage, finding the back of the goal. Roanoke scored once more just six minutes into the second half as Kellie Jasinski fielded a long pass from Shannon McCarthy to advance Roanoke's lead to 2-0.

Roanoke was led in shots by Jasinski, who had five shots on goal. She was followed by Moorlag with two, while Devon Huddleston and Shelbi Holloman had one shot each.

The Maroons had to hold off five penalty corners from Goucher in the second half to maintain their 2-0 advantage. Roanoke outshot Goucher 9-6 in the contest, while the Gophers finished with five saves to the Maroons' two.

The Maroons return to action on Friday, September 6th as they travel to Danville, KY to take on Centre College. That contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
