Field Hockey Edged By Sewanee, 4-3 on Saturday
DANVILLE, KY - The Roanoke College field hockey team was edged out in the final 10 minutes of Saturday's game against Sewanee, 4-3. The Maroons now have a record of 1-2, while the Tigers have a mark of 2-1.

Roanoke attacked early in the contest, as Shelbi Holloman found the back of the cage in the first six minutes of the game. Her unassisted goal was the first of her career. The Tigers responded with back to back goals at the 21 and 31 minute marks. Karen Dawson tied the game up at 1-1 with an unassisted goal, while Kat Mulligan gave the Tigers the lead off of a pass from Carrie Anderson. With just 1:15 left in the contest, Emily McQueen tied the game at 2-2, off of a dish from Kellie Jasinski. Jasinski has scored a point in each of the Maroons first three contests. After 35, the game was tied at 2-2.

The Maroons struck first in the second half as Isabella Lucia scored, giving Roanoke a 3-2 lead. The Maroons were able to hold off the Tigers for the next 18 minutes, but Carrie Anderson scored two goals in the final 10 minutes for Sewanee, picking up the 4-3 win.

The Tigers outshot the Maroons on the afternoon 31-20. Kelly Finn led the Maroons in shots with five, including three of which were on goal. Emily McQueen tallied four shots, and Shelbi Holloman had three. Candice Fisher played all 70 minutes in goal and tallied 14 saves.

Sewanee was led in shots by Carrie Anderson who finished with 10 shots and two goals. She was followed in shots by Maggie Boozer with six shots, three of which were on goal. Ellie Barton and Gabrielle Fignar split time in goal and tallied a combined nine saves. The Tigers finished the game with 11 penalty corners to Roanoke's nine.

The Maroons return to action on Sunday, September 15th as they play host to Mary Washington. That contest is scheduled for a 2:00 PM.
