ASHLAND - The Roanoke College field hockey team dropped an ODAC match-up against Randolph-Macon College on Saturday, 3-1. The Maroons now have a record of 2-8; 1-2 ODAC, while the Yellow Jackets sit with a record of 6-5; 4-0 in ODAC play.
The Yellow Jackets jumped on the scoreboard first on Saturday, as Carrie Jacobs tallied the team's first goal in the first two minutes. Roanoke scored the equalizer just 17 minutes later as last week's ODAC Player of the Week, Shelbi Holloman, scored an unassisted goal to tie the game at 1-1.
Randolph-Macon scored again in the second half as Lauren Seal potted an unassisted goal to take a 2-1 lead over the Maroons. The Yellow Jackets scored once more 11 minutes later as Taylor Loomis slipped one into the cage off of an assist by Jacobs. Randolph-Macon's two goal lead would hold through the remainder of the game as the Maroons fell 3-1 on the road.
The Yellow Jackets held an advantage on shots, as Randolph-Macon took 19 shots to Roanoke's 11. Shelbi Holloman led the Maroons with four shots, all of which were on goal. Stacy Bechtel, Emily McQueen and Shannon McCarthy each tallied two shots apiece. Holloman scored the Maroons lone goal of the game and now has two goals on the season. Candice Fisher played all 70 minutes in goal and tallied one save.
The Maroons return to action on Friday, October 11th as they play host to Bridgewater College. That contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
