Field Hockey Edged By Bridgewater, 3-2 in Overtime
SALEM - The Roanoke College field hockey team was edged by Bridgewater College on Friday evening, 3-2 in overtime. The Maroons now have a mark of 2-9; 1-3 ODAC, while the Eagles sit with a mark of 8-3; 2-1 in ODAC play.

The Eagles outshot the Maroons in the first half, 5-4, but Roanoke had a good number of offensive attempts. Bridgewater had a scoring opportunity in the first half as a shot bounced off of the post of the cage, bounced back for an Eagle shot, but was saved by Candice Fisher. After the first 35 minutes, the Maroons and Eagles were locked in a 0-0 tie.

Bridgewater Colleen Dixon scored the Eagles' first goal of the game during a penalty corner attempt. At the 41 minute mark, Bridgewater held a 1-0 lead. The Eagle advantage only held for the next seven minutes when Shelbi Holloman scored for the Maroons in the left side of the goal. Holloman would be an important part of the next goal as she tallied the assist for Alex DiFelice's rebound goal. With 19 minutes to play in regulation, Roanoke held a 2-1 lead.

The Maroons held the one goal advantage right up to the end of the game until Bridgewater's Taylor Prillaman fired a laser into the right side of the goal to tie the game at 2-2. With the game squared away at 2-2, the teams were forced into a 15 minute overtime period. After Roanoke's Fisher made an outstanding save, coming out of the cage, Bridgewater's Rachel Loy bounced the rebound back into the goal for the 3-2 overtime win.

Bridgewater outshot Roanoke 12-9 in tonight's contest. Shelbi Holloman led the Maroons with four shots, which included one goal. Isabella Lucia, Emily McQueen, Kellie Jasinski, Fleur Moorlag and Alex DeFelice each finished with one shot each. Candice Fisher played 77 minutes in net and tallied three saves.

The Maroons will travel to Lexington, VA on Sunday, October 13th to take on Rhodes College in a neutral site game. That contest is scheduled for a 12:00 PM start.
