Field Hockey Falls to Shenandoah 2-0 in ODAC Contest
SALEM - The Roanoke College field hockey team fell in ODAC action to Shenandoah University on Saturday afternoon, 2-0. The Maroons finish the season with a record of 3-13; 2-6 in the ODAC, while Shenandoah hits .500 with a mark of 9-9; 5-2 in the ODAC.

Today was Senior Day for three of the Roanoke field hockey players: Sophia Rodbell, Kelly Finn and Shannon McCarthy. These three players were part of a four year squad that tallied 90 goals and competed in two ODAC tournaments. Kelly Finn finished the season with one goal, while Shannon McCarthy tallied one assist. Sophia Rodbell played in four games for the Maroons, tallying 103 minutes of action.

The Hornets put the first goal on the board at the 11:08 mark in the game, as Kelani Bailey scored off an inbounds pass from Sarah Brock on a penalty corner. Bailey's goal slipped through the left side of the goal to give Shenandoah a 1-0 lead. The Maroons were able to hold off Shenandoah for the next 36 minutes.

A big defensive play came at the 42:56 mark when Candice Fisher stepped out of the box to take on a shot. A shot from Bailey got past Fisher, but Stacy Bechtel had the goal line covered to keep the ball from finding the back of the cage.

However, Shenandoah's Ashley Cross scored the team's second goal of the game five minutes later. Cross took the shot to the left side of the cage to give the Hornets the 2-0 lead. That two goal advantage held through the remainder of the contest as Shenandoah won, 2-0.

The Maroons finished with eight shots on the afternoon, compared to Shenandoah's 13. Kellie Jasinski, Shelbi Holloman, and Isabella Lucia each finished with two shots apiece. Both of Holloman's shots were on goal, while Kelly Finn had a shot on goal as well. Candice Fisher played all 70 minutes in cage and tallied 5 saves. This season, Fisher ranks fourth in the ODAC in total saves with 123, just eight behind the leader. She also ranks fourth in the ODAC in shutouts with two.
