Three Maroons Named to 2013 Field Hockey All-ODAC Teams

FOREST, Va. --- Shenandoah University attacker Ashley Cross and SU mentor Ashley Smeltzer lead picked up two of the major honors as part of the All-ODAC field hockey awards. Cross was tabbed the ODAC Player of the Year, while Smeltzer was named the ODAC Coach of the Year. Washington and Lee University defender Noelani Schulmeyer earned ODAC Rookie of the Year recognition. Bridgewater College senior Colleen Dickson was selected the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete by the league's sports information directors.

Three Maroons were named to All-ODAC teams in 2013. Stacy Bechtel was named to Second Team All-ODAC, while Kelly Finn and Shelbi Holloman were named to the All-ODAC Third Team.

Stacy Bechtel, from Eldersburg, MD, was named to the All-ODAC Second Team in 2013. She earned Third Team honors in 2012. Bechtel started at defense for the Maroons, playing in 15 of Roanoke's games. Bechtel finished the season with three shots, all of which were on goal.

Kelly Finn, a native of Fairhaven, NJ, earned All-ODAC honors for the second consecutive year. Finn played in 15 of the Maroons games, tallying 984 minutes of play. She took 23 shots on the year and scored one goal in Roanoke's 3-0 win over Sweet Briar College.

Shelbi Holloman, from Suffolk, VA, was named to the All-ODAC Third Team in her freshman year at Roanoke College. Holloman ranked second on the squad in points with 12, scoring five goals and tallying two assists. Holloman scored Roanoke's game winner against Virginia Wesleyan on September 28th. She was named ODAC Field Hockey Player of the Week on September 30th and became the first Maroon to earn that honor since Lindsay Paz in 2004.
