The Maroons opened up the 2014 season with a tough two first games. The Maroons dropped the season opener to St. Mary's, before taking a loss to #16 Mary Washington. The Maroons quickly turned things around after the loss to the nationally ranked Eagles. The Maroons went on a four game win-streak, the best consecutive win total for the Maroons since 2004. Roanoke also opened with a 4-2 record, which was also the best mark for Roanoke in the past 10 years. In the streak, Roanoke defeated Hood (2-1), Wilson (3-2), Ferrum (5-0) and in the Maroon home opener, Bethany (3-2).
Roanoke's first loss after the win streak came from eventual ODAC Champion, Bridgewater College in a 5-3 decision. The Maroons showed toughness in the contest that would carry them through the remainder of the season. Roanoke's first ODAC win came against Sweet Briar on October 1st, where the Maroons tallied an 8-1 victory over the Vixens. It was the Maroons' largest margin of victory over Sweet Briar since the 2003 season.
The field hockey team, like the women's soccer team, took a tough loss at Virginia Wesleyan, but bounced back with a 2-1 win over Eastern Mennonite for the second ODAC win of the season. Roanoke went on to win two more games in October. The Maroons traveled to Conway, Ark. over fall break to take on Hendrix College, where Roanoke came out on top 3-2. In the final home game of the year, Roanoke had a rematch against Ferrum, with the Maroons picking up the 7-1 win over the Panthers, an improvement on the 5-0 decision earlier in the season.
Roanoke was led in scoring by Shelbi Holloman, who tallied 14 goals on the season. She was followed by Kelsey Palmisano with 8 goals in her freshman campaign. Katerina DeSimone and Kellie Jasinski led the Maroons in assists with five apiece, while Isabella Lucia finished with three assists of her own. In goal, Candice Fisher played the majority of the time for the Maroons. She finished with 109 saves on the year, along with eight wins. She ranks sixth all-time at Roanoke College in wins (10) and eighth all-time in saves (242).
