Field Hockey Falls to St. Mary's in Season Opener
FREDERICKSBURG, VA - The Roanoke College field hockey team fell to St. Mary's in non-conference action in the Maroons' season opener, 6-2. The Maroons start the season with a record of 0-1, while the Seahawks are 2-0 in 2014.

Roanoke kept St. Mary's from scoring for the first 18 mintues of the game, until the Seahawks' Brady Wolf found the back of the cage at the 18:57 mark, assisted by Emily Bishop. St. Mary's took a two goal lead after Olivia Edwards scored just five minutes later, unassisted.

St. Mary's scored once more at 38:56, but Roanoke scored its first goal of the season four minutes later as Rebecca Schmidt tallied her first career goal, unassisted. After 42 minutes, Roanoke trailed 3-1. After a Seahawk goal at the 47:00 mark, Roanoke's Kelsey Palmisano also scored the first goal of her career as a Maroon at 49:49. With just 20 mintues to play, Roanoke trailed by two, 4-2. However, St. Mary's scored goals from Edwards and Wolf in the final 10 minutes of the game to take the 6-2 victory over the Maroons.

Kelsey Palmisano led the Maroons in shots, taking four on the afternoon, one of which found the back of the cage. Caroline Peterson followed Palmisano in shots with two. Candice Fisher played all 70 mintues in the cage and tallied 11 saves.

The Seahawks were led in shots by Brady Wolf, who tallied seven shots, followed by Olivia Edwards, who had five. Christy Bishop played 56 minutes in goal and finished with five saves.

The Maroons return to action on Sunday, as they take on Mary Washington on the road at 3:00 PM.
