Maroons Fall To Centre College On Sunday
SALEM - The Roanoke College field hockey team fell 6-1 to Centre College on Sunday afternoon at Kerr Stadium. The Maroons are now 4-5 on the season, while the Colonels are 7-3 on the year.

The Maroons took promising looks at goals in the first half, with a pair of rebound shots from Shelbi Holloman, but Centre's Kirby Roberts made multiple saves. Roanoke's lone goal came with five minutes to play in contest, as Danielle Allen fired a pass across the face of the goal to Emily McQueen. McQueen went on to tuck the ball into the cage to pull the Maroons within five, 6-1. However, Centre's lead held through the final five minutes, as the Maroons fell 6-1 on Sunday.

Kelsey Gordon scored three goals for the Colonels, netting her first at the 18:58 mark of the contest. She followed up 12 mintues later with another, assisted by Nicole DeHerde. Gordon also scored Centre's fifth goal of the afternoon at 48:19, assisted by Erin Keifer. Other Centre goals were tallied by Mary Andrews, who found the back of the net at the 11th minute, as well as Julie Gates, who scored the first goal of the second half. Erin Mays tallied the final goal for Centre, scoring at the 65:08 mark.

The Maroons fired off seven shots during the contest, four of which were taken by Shelbi Holloman. Emily McQueen followed with two shots, and Isabella Lucia notched one. Candice Fisher, Emmay Graybill and Ashleigh Hamman all saw time in the cage Sunday, with Fisher leading the group with five saves.

The Colonels finished with 20 shots on the day, led by Julie Gates who took five attempts. She was followed by Kelsey Gordon, Nicole DeHerde, and Erin Mays, all of which finished with three shots. Kirby Roberts played the complete game in goal, tallying five saves.

The Maroons return to action on Wednesday, October 1st as they return to Old Dominion Athletic Conference action. Roanoke hosts Sweet Briar College in a 7:00 PM game at Kerr Stadium.
