Field Hockey Falls To Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday
VIRGINIA BEACH - The Roanoke College field hockey team fell 1-0 to Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon. The Maroons have a record of 5-6 on the season with a 1-3 mark in ODAC play, while Virginia Wesleyan is 3-7, 1-1 in the ODAC.

Virginia Wesleyan's lone goal came at the 16:55 mark as Brynn Ammon scored off of a pass from Caitlyn Hogge. Ammon found the back of the cage from about five yards out on the left corner. The Marlins outshot Roanoke 3-2 in the first half. Shots from Roanoke in the first frame came from Caroline Peterson and Shelbi Holloman, both attempts were blocked.

In the second half, the Maroons outshot the Marlins 3-2, but none of the shots from Roanoke got past the keeper. Emily McQueen, Kellie Jasinski and Rebecca Schmidt all took attempts at the goal in the second half for Roanoke.

Roanoke fired off five shots in the contest, with the five aforementioned players taking one shot each. The Maroons held the advantage in penalty corners 11-6 in the effort. Candice Fisher played all 70 minutes and tallied two saves.

Virginia Wesleyan also took five shots during the game, led by Skyler Weaver, who took two shots. Taylor Marshall, Sam Jackson and Bryn Ammon each took one shot apiece. Lindsay Baker played in the cage for the Marlins, making two saves in the win.

The Maroons return to action on October 8th as they take on Eastern Mennonite at Kerr Stadium. That contest is scheduled for a 4:00 PM start.
