With the win, the Maroons are back to .500 on the season, with a record of 6-6. Head Coach Briana Banks and the Maroon program have tied the most wins in a season with six, matching the 2011 win total. Six wins is also the best season total for the Maroons since the 2004 season as well. Today's win over Eastern Mennonite is also the second Maroon win over the Royals in the last three years.
Roanoke was the first team on the board in the first half, as Kelsey Palmisano scored at the 17:32 mark. Palmisano took two previous shots that bounced off the keeper's pads, but snuck the third goal between the keeper and the post for the 1-0 lead. Eastern Mennonite tied the game in the 34th minute as Jenessa Derstine scored off a pass from the top of the circle from Camille Williams. The tie would hold through the first 35 minutes leaving a 1-1 mark at half.
The deciding goal came at 62:42, when Palmisano played a leading pass from Kellie Jasinski in the circle, tapping it into the right corner for the 2-1 lead. Palmisano's two goals in this game mark her sixth and seventh of the season, as she's now the sixth highest scorer in the ODAC to date. The Maroons turned the ball over late in the second half, but regained control as Roanoke picked up the 2-1 win over Eastern Mennonite.
The Maroons finished with eight shots on the afternoon, four of which were taken by Palmisano. Four other Maroons finished with one shot each (Isabella Lucia, Kellie Jasinski, Shelbi Holloman and Jacklyn Farides). Candice Fisher played in goal all 70 minutes and tallied four saves. Farides also notched two key defensive saves during penalty corners to keep the Maroons on top in the contest.
The Royals took 13 shots in the game led by Jenessa Derstine with five. She was followed by Lorraine Armstrong with three shots. Hannah Daley played the complete game between the pipes tallying five saves on seven shots faced.
The Maroons will return to action on October 12-13 as the Maroons travel to Arkansas as they take on Sewanee and Hendrix College, both on the campus of Hendrix College.
