Field Hockey Drops Non-Conference Game to Sewanee
CONWAY, AR - The Roanoke College field hockey team fell to The University of the South on Sunday afternoon, 6-1. The Maroons now have a record of 6-7, while the Tigers of Sewanee are 6-6 on the season.

Roanoke still holds the advantage in the all-time series against Sewanee, 9-4-1. The Maroons are 2-2 against the Tigers over the last four meetings.

Sewanee scored two goals in the first 20 minutes of the game, with one each coming from Allegra Massey-Elim and Sarah Barry. Barry also tabbed the assist for the Tiger's first goal. The Maroons pulled within one at 22:11 as Katerina DeSimone tallied an unassisted goal. The goal marked DeSimone's second on the season. With her two goals and four assists, she sits third on the squad in points with eight.

However, DeSimone's goal proved to be Roanoke's only tally for the contest. Over the remainder of the first half, Barry and Janie Spilman each scored a goal, giving the Tigers a 4-1 lead after the first 35 minutes. Carrie Anderson scored just minutes into the second half, and Barry completed her hat trick with the final goal of the game at 46:40. Roanoke took a 6-1 loss to the Southern Athletic Assocation opponent.

The Maroons were narrowly outshot by the Tigers, as Roanoke got 13 shots off to Sewanee's 14. Shelbi Holloman and Jacklyn Farides each tallied three shots, while Alex DiFelice followed with two. The Maroons played goalkeeper by committee, with Candice Fisher tallying three saves over 26 minutes. The Maroons also tallied three defensive saves, one each from Emily McQueen, Alex DiFelice and Megan Pullin.

Sewanee was led in shots by Sarah Barry, who fired five at the Roanoke goal. Allegra Massey-Elim and Carrie Anderson each tallied three shots. Katya Waters and Gabrielle Fignar each spent 35 minutes in the cage for the Tigers, with Waters picking up three saves.

The Maroons return to action on Monday, October 13th as they take on Hendrix College. That game will begin at 8:00 PM eastern/7:00 PM Central.
