Field Hockey Falls 3-0 In ODAC Battle With Washington and Lee
SALEM - The Roanoke College field hockey team dropped its Old Dominion Athletic Conference contest against Washington & Lee on Wednesday 3-0. The Maroons now have a record of 7-9, 2-4 ODAC, while the Generals are now 9-6, 3-3 in ODAC play.

With two regular season ODAC games remaining on the schedule, the Maroons sit in sixth place on the conference table. The top six teams advance to the ODAC Tournament, which begins on Saturday, November 1st. The Maroons are looking to return to the ODAC Tournament for the first time since 2012.

Washington and Lee gained the upper hand early in the contest as Charlotte MacDonald scored two goals in the first eight minutes of the contest. The first goal came at 5:48 as MacDonald scored into the right side of the cage off of a pass from Maggie Waxter, taking a 1-0 lead. MacDonald's second goal came two minutes later as she hit the left side of the goal off of a pass from Abby Avery. Roanoke put pressure on the Generals for most of the remainder of the half, but couldn't slip one past the keeper in two attempts. After the first 45, Roanoke trailed 2-0 to W&L.

Both teams were held without a goal for the entire 35 minutes of the second half. However, Charlotte MacDonald tallied her third goal of the night after the clock hit zero on a penalty corner, giving the Generals a 3-0 victory over the Maroons.

The Maroons finished the contest with five shots to their credit. Katerina DeSimone led the squad with two shots, while Rebecca Schmidt, Shelbi Holloman and Alex DiFelice each finished with one shot apiece. Candice Fisher finished the game with five saves in 70 minutes of play.

Washington and Lee tallied 12 shots on the evening, with eight on goal. Candice Stefanic finished the game with four shots, while Charlotte MacDonald and Abby Avery fired off three each. All three of MacDonald's shots found the back of the cage. Jacqueline Llewellyn finished the game with four saves on four shots faced in 70 minutes.

The Maroons return to action on Saturday, October 25th as they travel to play at Shenandoah University. That contest is scheduled for a 5:00 PM start.
