WINCHESTER - The Roanoke College field hockey team was narrowly edged by Shenandoah University on Saturday afternoon, 2-1 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action. The Maroons are 7-10 on the season, 2-5 in ODAC play, while the Hornets are 10-6, 5-2 in the ODAC.

The Maroons still sit in the sixth position in the ODAC, tied with Eastern Mennonite with a 2-5 mark in conference play. Roanoke is still in the running for an ODAC Tournament spot with a win over Lynchburg College - OR - if the Maroons sit with the same record as Eastern Mennonite after Wednesday's game. The Maroons defeated the Royals 2-1 on October 8^th. If both teams were to lose on Wednesday, and Virginia Wesleyan were to win, then the teams would be subjected to the league's tiebreaker system.

Roanoke put Shenandoah on its heels in the first half as Shelbi Holloman scored the first goal of the game at the 21:44 mark in the first half. The ODAC's leading scorer now has 13 goals to her credit during her sophomore campaign. The Maroons held on to the 1-0 advantage through the first 35 minutes of the half.

In the second period, Shenandoah scored the equalizer right out of the gate as Ashley Cross scored her sixth goal of the season in the first 47 seconds of the half. The Hornets would pot one more goal with seven minutes remaining in the contest as Presha Merritt scored her first goal of the season off of a pass from Sarah Brock. Shenandoah's lead held in the final seven minutes as Roanoke fell 2-1 to the Hornets.

The Maroons finished the game with 10 total shots, led by Holloman with five. Kellie Jasinski tallied two shots, while Isabella Lucia, Katerina DeSimone and Jacklyn Farides had one shot apiece. Candice Fisher played the complete game in net, tallying five saves.

Shenandoah attempted 14 shots during the game, with Ashley Cross taking five of those shots. She was followed by Kelani Bailey, Presha Merritt and Tori Finney with two shots each. Jenna Rampale also played the complete game in net, making three saves. Lauren Kesler was credited with a defensive save as well.

The Maroons return to action on Sunday, October 26^th as they take on Ferrum College. That contest will serve as Senior Day for Roanoke, with the game starting at 6:00 PM.
