SALEM - Six different Roanoke College field hockey players scored in the Maroons' 7-1 victory over Ferrum College on Sunday evening. The Maroons now have a record of 8-10, while the Panthers have a record of 1-13.

With the win, the Maroons pick up their eighth victory of the season. The Maroons continue to have the best season for the program since 2004, more than doubling their win total from the 2013 season. This is also Roanoke's second win over Ferrum this season, having defeated the Panthers 5-0 on Saturday, September 20th. Before the game, Roanoke also celebrated the careers of seniors Candice Fisher and Lauren Hurley. The two seniors have played for the Maroons for the last three years, helping build the squad to its best season in 12 years.

The Maroons started scoring early, finding the back of the cage twice in the first seven minutes of the contest. The first goal came at 4:56, when Isabella Lucia took a shot into the right side of the cage, giving the Maroons the 1-0 lead. The second goal came at 6:52 when Rebecca Schmidt fired off a shot at the goal, rolling under the foot of the goalkeeper during a clear attempt. Schmidt's goal was assisted by Caroline Peterson.

Shelbi Holloman, the ODAC goals leader, scored Roanoke's third goal of the night at 17:59. Holloman has scored 14 goals this season, leading the conference by one goal. She was assisted on the play by Kellie Jasinski, her fourth of the season. The Maroons potted one more goal with just 11 seconds to play in the first half. Jacklyn Farides slipped the ball into the left side of the cage to give Roanoke a 4-0 halftime lead.

Ferrum scored its first goal at 44:47, when Kiani Mohica lit the lamp, pulling the Panthers back within four, 5-1. Roanoke pushed the lead back to five at 48:30, when Katerina DeSimone scored her fourth goal of the season, the third most of any Maroon so far in 2014. Shelbi Holloman returned the favor for Kellie Jasinski at 58:48, providing the assist to Jasinski's goal that put the Maroons ahead by six, 7-1. The goal is Jasinski's second of the season.

The Maroons outshot Ferrum 25-1 over the 70 minute contest. Roanoke was led in shots by Shelbi Holloman, who took six attempts in the game. She was followed by Katerina DeSimone with five shots, while Kellie Jasinski tallied three. Isabella Lucia, Rebecca Schmidt and Jacklyn Farides took two shots apiece. Candice Fisher played the first 35 minutes in the cage, and then handed over the reins to Emma Graybill and Ashleigh Hamman for time in the second half.

Kiania Mohia took Ferrum's only shot of the night, which resulted in the lone goal for the Panthers. Courtney Gosslin played 54 minutes in goal, tallying nine saves, while Alexis Atkinson played the remainder of the time, with one save.

The Maroons return to action on Wednesday, October 29th as they travel to face Lynchburg College in the Maroons final regular season ODAC contest. That game is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
