The top six teams advance to the ODAC Tournament. The Maroons tied with Virginia Wesleyan and Eastern Mennonite with a conference mark of 2-6. The tie-breaker came down to goals differential between the three teams. In this case, Eastern Mennonite was +1, Roanoke was even and Virginia Wesleyan was -1. In this case, Eastern Mennonite captures the #6 seed.
Roanoke, however, finishes 2014 with the program's best win record since 2004, winning eight games this season. With the win total, the Maroons produced the best season for head coach Briana Banks in her five years the helm of the program, having won six games during the 2011 season.
Sophomore Shelbi Holloman finishes 2014 leading all players in the ODAC with 14 goals, and sixth in the conference with 28 points. Kelsey Palmisano ranked second on the squad with eight goals. Katerina DeSimone, who entered her first year of Roanoke field hockey after playing lacrosse in the spring, led the Maroons in assists, dishing out five over the course of the season.
Roanoke was outshot by the Hornets 17-8 on Wednesday evening. Lynchburg set the pace early, scoring in the 59th second of the game, as Danielle Kreider tabbed the first goal of the game for the Hornets. The Maroons trailed 1-0 at halftime.
Lynchburg scored quickly again in the second half, netting a goal by Taylor Quillen in the second minute of the period, assisted by Kelsey Link. The Hornets tallied one more goal in the half when Meredith Bradsher scored off of a pass from Kreider, giving Lynchburg the 3-0 victory over the Maroons.
Roanoke was led in shots by Katerina DeSimone and Rebecca Schmidt with two shots each, while four other players fired off one shot apiece during the contest. Candice Fisher played all 70 minutes in the cage, tallying 12 saves during the course of the evening.
For Lynchburg, Danielle Kreider attempted eight of the Hornets 17 shots of the night. She was followed by Quillin with three shots. Beka Hess also played the complete game for the Hornets, finishing with five saves.
