2014-15 Top Moments #8: Field Hockey & Women's Soccer Excel Academically
The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) awarded the Roanoke Women's Soccer team with the Team Academic Award for the third year (2011, 2013, and 2014). The NSCAA awards teams with this honor if a team's overall grade point average is 3.0 or higher. This year the women's soccer team had an average GPA of 3.17, an increase from the previous season.

The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) awarded the Maroons with the National Academic Team Award. In order to receive this award, a team must hold a team GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Four field hockey student-athletes also received the 2014 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Collegiate Scholars of Distinction. In order to receive this award, student-athletes must earn a GPA of 3.9 or higher during the first semester of the 2014-2015 school year.

Lauren Hurley a senior, received the award for the fourth time, sophomores Emily McQueenand Kelly Wood received the award for the second time, and freshman Caroline Peterson was also awarded this honor.

Nine field hockey players were named to the 2014 SGI/NFHCA Collegiate National Academic Squad by achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher during the first semester of the 2014-15 academic year. The following student-athletes were honored: Arielle Allam, Dannielle Allen, Emma Graybill, Shelbi Holloman, Lauren Hurley, Emily McQueen, Kelsey Palmisano, Caroline Peterson, and Kelly Wood.

In addition, Roanoke College had 117 student-athletes named to the 2014-15 ODAC All-Academic Team. This award requires student athletes to maintain a GPA of 3.25 or higher for the academic year. The field hockey team accounted for 11 of those names, while the women's soccer team accounted for 17.
