The Lead: Shelbi Holloman scored three times as the Roanoke College Field Hockey teamed opened the season with a 6-0 victory over Ferrum Tuesday evening in Salem.
How it Happened:
- Holloman scored 11:31 into the game to notch the first goal of the season off a pass from Emily McQueen.
- The Maroons maintained that lead until the 30:54 mark when Kellie Jasinski scored to make it 2-0, which would be the score at halftime.
- Holloman put the game away with back-to-back goals in a span of 1:37 at the start of the second-half to double the Maroons advantage.
- Kelsey Palmisano scored twice in the late stages to cap the scoring, both times forcing turnovers deep in the Ferrum end and converting those turnovers into goals
- RC outshot Ferrum 27-2 and held a 14-0 edge in penalty corners.
- Ferrum's Courtney Gosslin made 14 saves for the Panthers.
Roanoke will head to Lynchburg to face Stevenson on the LC campus. The Mustangs totaled a school record 15 wins last season and won the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Championship.
