The Lead: Karissa LeMaire's goal in overtime sent Lynchburg to a 2-1 win over Roanoke in ODAC Field Hockey action Tuesday night.
How it Happened
- The Maroons jumped on top first when Megan Diehl broke through a crowd of players and used a shot into the right side of the goal to beat LC keeper Beka Hess to make it 1-0 at the 27:25 mark.
- LC got the equalizer just 28 seconds later when Catherine Rogerson's shot from the side of the net deflected off a RC stick and into the goal.
- The second-half featured a flurry of back and forth action with both goalkeepers making saves to keep the game tied at 1-1.
- RC's Heather Schauder made 14 saves total, including nine in the second-half. With 17 minutes to go in the game, Schauder made a save on Kayla Copeman at point blank range.
- The Maroons had a chance to pull ahead when they were awarded a penalty stroke opportunity in the 45th minute but Hass turned Kellie Jasinski's shot aside to preserve the tie.
- With the clock expired, the Roanoke defense fought off four consecutive penalty corners to finish the game.
- Playing seven on seven in overtime, Lynchburg's LeMaire collected a rebound off a Copeman shot and was able to score.
- Lynchburg held a 22-17 edge in shots for the game.
